Victoria couple want to find missing cat

Tubby, a nine-year-old feline, went missing last Saturday morning in South Pandosy neighbourhood.

A Victoria couple is frantically looking for their pet cat after it escaped from a harness and disappeared in a South Pandosy neighbourhood.

Jeannine Smeaton said the 9-year-old Tabby cat, named Tubby, bolted while with their family visiting a nearby park near Richter Street, not far from Kelowna General Hospital, last Saturday morning.

Smeaton said she was heartbroken to see the cat escape, and the loss has also had an impact on the family’s second cat, currently suffering from various ailments associated with old age.

“We are renting a home for a month in the area of Richter and Rose because my husband is here taking a course,” explained Smeaton. “We take the cats with us everywhere, but we hadn’t had them out of the house for two weeks so we thought we’d take them to the park on a harness, but Tubby was able to break free.”

Since the cat disappeared, the Smeatons have put up about 500 posters around the neighbourhood hoping someone might have seen Tubby.

“We’re trying to get the word out because when cats run away like that, they generally stay within a five-block radius of where they disappeared,” she said.

“Tubby is probably hiding somewhere close by and really scared at this point. And our other car is suffering because it misses the other one.”

Smeaton said the family has posted a $200 reward for finding Tubby, but their concern is they will be returning home in two weeks.

“Everyone we’ve come in contact with has been awesome in wanting to help us out,” Smeaton. “This is a great city you live in.”

Anyone who spots Tubby can contact the Smeatons at 1-250-812-9605.
