Dan JAUD

was born in Buchanan, Saskatchewan in 1917, to Alexandre and Marie who had recently emigrated from France. Dan excelled as a scholar and mastered his second language, English, in the first grade. He grew up on the prairies during the 1930’s in the small town of Kuroki, and there met his true love, June. After years as childhood sweethearts, they married in 1940. A strong, quiet and gentle man, Dan was drafted into the Canadian Armed Forces and stationed in Goose Bay, Labrador as part of the Signal Corp. After the war, Dan moved to Kelowna and soon a family of four sons and a daughter became the center of all of his attention and efforts. He looked after his family first by owning and operating a corner store in Rutland, then partnering in a new meat-processing business and later managing the financial side of businesses like Orchard City Press and Ehman’s printing. In the height of his career, he bought a small orchard, which kept his sons busy. He played an integral role in the development of Rutland and invested much of his spare time to see the community grow. He served as a Director of the Rutland Water Works and supported his wife in many community activities such as the Rutland Hospital Auxiliary, Rutland PTA, Red Cross and Kelowna Regatta. In retirement, Dan, found passion in sports clubs, playing horseshoes, bowling and billiards. Each of those sports brought out his true competitive nature, usually surprising his opponents, but what Dan was really interested in was the camaraderie that sport provided. He truly treasured the friends he made along the way. Always up for a good conversation, Dan’s quick wit and humour was enjoyed by many. Dan will be greatly missed by his wife June, his daughter Janyse, his sons Neil (Ivel), Jerry (Maureen), Peter (passed 1966) and Steven; along with the extended family of Lorraine, grandchildren Nicole, Danny, Rebecca, Jeremy, Missy, Tiegh and great grandchildren Kandice, Dylan, Ryan, DiAnne, Brandon, Sean and Daniel. In lieu of flowers, Dan wished that we all would plant a tree, a bush or a shrub and treasure the renewal of life. Celebration of Life to be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna on Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 at 11:00 A.M.
