WESTCOTT, Genevieve “Gene” (nee Metheral), born in Foremost, AB. January 19, 1917, passed away June 19, 2010 at age 93 while visiting family in Kelowna, BC. Gene knew that on life’s completion on earth she could & did look forward to her new home in Heaven with her Lord and her Savior Jesus Christ. Gene had many interests, the top one being people, speaking sparingly of her own hills and valleys (although periodically a bit was revealed); she always stood ready to lend a helping hand. Not having children of her own she loved and cherished each of her twenty six nieces & nephews and twenty plus great & great-great grand nieces and nephews, giving sound and sage advice endearing herself to all age groups. Her wonderful sense of humour was enjoyed where ever she went; even people who worked in professional offices often chuckled while performing their care for her. During WWII she joined the Canadian Air Force where her service was as Flt Sgt in Office Admin & Instruction of Codes/Cyphers & Signets in Gander, Nfld. Later studied Business Admin at U of T. After the war she worked in Nanaimo then back to Calgary retired twenty years later from Accounts/Taxroll/Assessing Dept of Revenue Canada and moved to Kelowna where she spent seventeen happy years before returning to family in Calgary in the mid 1990’s. Gene believed in discussions, her interests included world travel, sports, reading, playing cards, motoring, flying, politics, volunteer opportunities but above all family and solid friendship. Gene was predeceased by her husband Al, her parents James & Myrtle Metheral, six sisters and their spouses, Greta (George) Cox, Vera (Jim) Scholefield, Gladys (Bob) Wilson, Marjorie (Ernest) Losey, Myrtle (Gib) Stiles, Mildred (Bob) Taylor, and her brother & his wife, Bert (May) Metheral, & brother-in-law Jack Weyman.
She is survived by sisters Letha Weyman of Airdrie, AB and Claire (Alan) Hodgson of Calgary, her 40 plus nieces & nephews, her dear and loyal friend Megan Lewis, many cousins and friends worldwide. Friends are welcome to join her relatives for the memorial graveside service at 2:00 pm on June 29 at Mountain View Memorial Gardens ~ 1605 – 100 St SE, Calgary with Pastor Rick Scruggs. In lieu of flowers if desired donations can be sent to a charitable organization of your choice. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Valleyview Funeral Home in Kelowna, BC.
