JULIA STEWART (nee Furian)

29 January 1938 – October 4, 2008. Julia Stewart passed away peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Julia leaves to mourn her loving husband Bill and her two sons, Michael and Derek (Penny, Carly, Kaitie) and grand dogs; Jake and Vera.  Julia immigrated to Canada in 1957 from Austria at the age of nineteen.  While working in the music department at the Davis agency on Sparks Street in Ottawa she met and married her husband.  As an Air Force wife she traveled extensively with her family throughout Canada, Europe and the USA, settling in Kelowna in 1977.  Julia and her good friend Judy, established and operated The Village Stichery, which had a number of outlets in Kelowna.  After retiring from retail she pursued her passion and natural talent for interior design, helping many to create warm and inviting homes and offices.  She established a number of life long friendships in the process.  Julia was known for her love of gardening, her gourmet cooking and the gracious entertaining that she and Bill always provided.  She had a huge heart, a love of life and a kind word for all.  Her giving spirit will be missed by all those lives she touched.  Julia is survived by six sisters, and two brothers in Europe.  Sister Angela Furian, Lisbon, Hemma (Lothar) Bauer, Berlin, Maria (Norbert) Zernig, Anni Primus, Gretel (Erwin) Karasin, Fini (Edi) Joham, Mini (Gerti) Furian and Hans Furian in Austria.  As well her dear brothers and sisters in-law, and the many Furian and Stewart nieces and nephews, will be left saddened by Julia’s passing.  Friends and family may call for a time of visitation on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 from 7 – 8 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road.  No service at Julia’s request.  Donations greatly appreciated to the Cancer Center for the Southern Interior:  399 Royal Ave., Kelowna, BC, V1Y 5L3.  Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com, 250-860-7077.
