Milton HALLMAN

HALLMAN: Milton passed away on October 24, 2009

at the age of 97. Milton was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Ruth, and his brother, Wilbur. He is survived by Ruth’s two sisters, Norma and Vivian, his children: Larry (Wanda), David, Marlene (Barry), and Richard (Debora) as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Milton grew up in the prairies where he worked hard at farming near Archerwill

in Saskatchewan. His interest in electricity lead him to take a radio course at DeVrie in Chicago.

When the war in Europe started, he volunteered and spent the next 4 years in Britain working on radar units in aircraft. In 1944 he married his childhood sweetheart, Ruth, after courting her by letter from England.

They moved to Oliver where Milton opened a Radio store, kept bees for honey and finally worked for Sun-Rype (then known as BC Fruit Processors) as a mechanic. He was moved to the Kelowna plant in 1957 where he eventually became mechanical superintendent until retirement at age 65. He spent the next 24 years farming fruit trees and Christmas trees in East Kelowna on the property

acquired to keep his kids busy as teenagers! Milton was widely loved and respected for his generosity and integrity. He was very talented with his hands and could make or fix or trouble-shoot almost anything. He was a caring father and loving husband. He loved the Lord and contributed much to his church. He will be greatly missed by his family. Many thanks to Sun Pointe Village staff for providing Milton with a loving home, to Ursula for always being there for him, to Don and the staff at Home Instead for such great support, and to Dr. Griswold for his gentle care. A service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, November 14 at Rutland United Church with Rev. Rick Potter officiating. A reception will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, Milton requested that donations be made directly to Rutland United Church, 1370 Rutland Rd.,

Kelowna, B.C. V1X4Z3. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.mem.com
