Rosie Mary Gagnon
1917 – 2010
Rosie Mary Gagnon passed away in Kelowna, BC on June 28th, 2010 at the age of 93. She was born April 7, 1917 in Regina, Saskatchewan to Agatha and Anthony Kornberger. Her father died as a young man, leaving her mother with 2 small children. Agatha remarried a widower, Peter Sperling, who also had 2 children and they later had 2 more boys together. The family left Sedley and moved to Kelowna when she was a young girl. On July 1, 1935, Rosie and Abel Gagnon were married and they had 4 children. She was a loving wife and mother as well as a great homemaker, wonderful cook and baker. She took time to be active in the St. Joseph’s church and the Catholic Woman’s League, Canadian Legion, Bowling League as well as being president of the Minor Hockey League. Rosie will be remembered for her kind and generous nature and was always willing to help others. Her sense of humor kept her going, when she cared for her husband, Abel, for many years. Everyone loved to hear her tell jokes! Cards and Bingo were her passion! Rosie left her family home of 60 years and moved to the Dorchester Retirement Home, where she met with old friends and made many new ones. She is survived by her daughter, Thelma (Dave) Bruce, Westbank, Reba (Don) Hawthorne, Cocolalla, Idaho, Rod (Jean) Gagnon, Winfield and Don (Evelyn) Gagnon, Kelowna, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a brother Bert (Velma) Sperling and sister-in-law Madeline Jennens, both of Kelowna and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceasing her was her loving husband, Abel and four of her siblings. We Love You and will miss you, Mom, Gram and Great-Gram! A special thanks to all the care givers at the Dorchester, the Hospital and Hospice House for all their wonderful care. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 2nd, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 839 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC.
