Letter: Okanagan College ‘model for other provinces’
To the editor:
Recently returning to the Okanagan for the 50th anniversary celebration of Okanagan College was a huge revelation.
I had the great pleasure of working with the faculty, staff and management of the college from 1986 to 1997, striving to make programs and benefits of the college better known throughout the valley.
Along the way in our RV, we wandered the astonishingly developed campuses in Penticton and Vernon, noting amazing growth in both.
As for Kelowna, since my retirement in 1997, the core campus has become a model for other provinces to envy, and emulate.
For many of us who worked in the Okanagan College system in past, the event was a heartwarming reunion. Throughout the entire system, OC people showed themselves, over and over, to be dedicated, skilled, talented and, above all, caring to their students and their colleagues.
The Capital News reporting and editorial staff were incredibly supportive and positive in coverage of college developments, and I’d say your team deserves a few pieces of the birthday cake too.
I’m happy to see that a few of your staff from my era are still contributing to the paper.
Like Bob Hope used to say: “Thanks for the Memories.”
