KGH access ‘difficult, awkward’

To the editor:

I cannot believe there is a plan to enforce parking rules around KGH.

My daughter broke her arm a couple of months ago. She is three, her borther is one. Imagine walking two blocks carrying two kids to get into the hospital for her multiple appointments.

You may ask why I wouldn’t just pop them into a stroller. The hospital hallways (where we often sat) are way too crowded to bring the stroller inside and the exam rooms are even smaller.

We really have to chose between the lesser of the evils—carry the kids or find something to do with the stroller when you get there.

Going to the hospital and emergency department is difficult and awkward at the best of times. This parking issue is going to make life much worse for people when we already have so much to think about.

Was there a plan for indoor parking perhaps under the giant new building? There’s lots of fun stuff going on at the hospital, it seems that nobody is thinking ahead though.

Traffic and parking are going to get worse in coming years as our community grows.

Noni Phillips,

Kelowna
