The need to be ready for in-house tyranny
To the editor:
What is the one greatest fear of any corrupt governing power in any country in the world, be it a dictatorship, a republic or democracy?
It is the people they govern possessing the ability to defend themselves if it ever became necessary through force of privately owned arms against unscrupulous authoratative aggression that would strip the people of their property, their fundamental human rights and their lives.
The common right to bear arms for self-preservation is far older than the U.S. Constitution and no argument can stand against this fundamental right.
The fathers of the U.S. Constitution knew this fact when they included “the right to bear arms” and it is reinforced in these words of the U.S. National anthem, “home of the brave and land of the free.”
