Letter: Expenses another nail in our senate’s coffin
To the editor:
What an enlightening and interesting truly stated editorial compiled by the editor of the Capital News published Dec. 5 in “Our View.”
Indeed, why should suspended Mike Duffy, the disgraced opportunist senator, continue to be eligible for medical benefits at our expense and, why would he not be terminated permanently?
Penalties would be more severe for those with ordinary jobs and naturally all benefits immediately cancelled upon dismissal.
All the corruption and advantages that have taken place, past and present, gives every reason to abolish this bureaucratic Senate wrongly appointed by the prime minister.
This governmental institution costs us millions of dollars yearly, ($14.2 million to be precise) and the abolishment is the desire of most Canadians.
Do we honestly believe the suspension of four senators whom allegedly submitted false claims has just recently begun?
