Letter: Remember the reason for this special season
To the editor:
For the 2.1 billion Christians around the world, Christmas is all about celebrating the birth of Jesus some 2013 years ago in the little town of Bethlehem.
The birth of Jesus fulfilled God’s promise of a Saviour for all mankind as recorded in Gen. 3:15 after Adam and Eve fell into sin. This happened about 2,500 years before the birth of Jesus.
This promise was also confirmed in Isaiah 9:6 about 800 years before Christ’s birth. Then just before His birth, an Angel sent by God spoke to Mary regarding the birth of Jesus as recorded in Luke 1:35: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”
We celebrate His birth because it is through His ministry, His miracles, His death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead, that we have the sure hope of eternal life with Him in Heaven. This is all summed up in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
We can be thankful to God for all the blessings and gifts which He provides to us,but as Christians, we especially thank Him for the free gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus our saviour.
This is the good news for all mankind which we are blessed to embrace and share with others.
Wishing you all God’s special love and blessings for a joy filled Christmas season and a blessed healthy rewarding New Year.
