Letters to the Editor

Letter: Editorial slant no surprise considering newspaper owner’s intention

To the editor:

Kudos to John Ryder for his excellently written letter in your Jan. 10 edition where he articulates his disapproval of columnist Tom Fletcher’s recent diatribe against those people who feel compelled to voice their concerns about the degradation of our environment.

Perhaps Mr. Fletcher’s vitriolic views are shaped in part by the knowledge that David Black, chairman and owner of Black Press and the publisher of the Kelowna Capital News and ultimately Mr. Fletcher’s boss, has advanced a serious proposal to build a $16-billion oil refinery in Kitimat, B.C. A helpful narrative would be one which derogates and ultimately dilutes the environmental review processes for such projects.
