Letter: Gerstmar needs pedestrian crosswalks

To the editor:

I would like to encourage the City of Kelowna to put two crosswalks on Gerstmar Road, as currently there are none.

Gerstmar is a high traffic street and has many students and bus users trying to cross it on a regular basis. Recently, three young girls were hit by a car while walking to school at Graham and Gerstmar.

I would like to see a crosswalk put at the corner of Graham and Gerstmar and also on Elwyn and Gerstmar. All it takes are some signs and paint to save a life.

I already wrote the city twice concerning this matter, and they did a pedestrian count and said they could not justify putting a crosswalk along Gerstmar.

I find this a terrible excuse and think it simply common sense to install two crosswalks on such a long, busy street.

If you agree with me on this matter, please call or write City Hall, and hopefully it will be done as soon as possible.
