OK Rockets playoff hope alive after win
The Okanagan Rockets kept their B.C. Major Midget League playoff hopes alive on Sunday beating the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs 5-2 in Maple Ridge.
The victory moved the Rockets to within three points of the Chiefs in the race for the final playoff spot in the BCMML with four games remaining in the regular season.
Alex Gillies continued his torrid pace with a goal and two assists while Mitchell Cook scored twice and Matt Hill and Harlan Orr added singles.
Connor De Melo was terrific in goal for the Rockets as he turned aside 32 of the 34 shots. DeMelo has earned a key victory in back to back weekends for the Rockets.
The win gave Okanagan a split of two games with the Chiefs on the weekend. On Saturday the Rockets had a 4-2 lead in the third period before the Chiefs scored three straight to take a 5-4 win.
The loss wasted a four point effort from Rockets captain Josh Ellis who scored his 12th and 13th goals of the season and chipped in with a pair of assists. TJ Demonceaux and Kendell Wilson also scored for the Rockets.
With 4 games remaining in the regular season the Rockets will host the first place NW Giants this weekend at the CNC.
The Giants will be the number one seed when the BCMML playoffs open up in 3 weeks.
