Kelowna Golf Digest: Assistants, seniors and ladies results
The PGA of British Columbia held its Assistants', Seniors, and Women's Championships at the Vernon Golf and Country Club this week.
Josh Fleming of Gallagher's Canyon was the top finishing assistant pro from Kelowna, finishing in a tie for 5th place after back-to-back 71s while the Okanagan Golf Club's Miles Palahniuk and Black Mountain's Russ Latimer were in a group tied for 10th after finishing the two rounds at one over par. OGC teaching professional Clay Stothers, the Harvest's Matt Greenway and Jamie Stevens of the Kelowna Golf and Country Club finished in a tie for 23rd.
In the women's division Tara Roden of Gallaghers tied for 2nd with rounds of 79 and 84 while in the Super Seniors division, Two Eagles member Lawrence Pierce cashed a cheque for placing third after firing a 73 in the final round at Vernon.
The new bent grass greens at the Okanagan Golf Club's Quail course were rolling quickly as players on the Molson Tour found out this week.
Sixty-eight players challenged the Quail Course on Monday night under threatening skies. Closest to the pin winners were Kent Paterson, Dave Adams, Jeff Bishop and Gord Johnston while Shane Cuthina blasted a long drive on the par five second hole and Jeff Budda drained the long putt on the par five 17th.

The golf season at Shannon Lake Golf Club is off to a good start as the course opened in terrific shape and has gotten better ever since. The facility is in the process of outfitting the golf course with new tee box signage and tee markers, while also updating all on course amenities.
In tournament play so far this year, the team of Harold Menges, Don Turk, Larry Preston and Rick Schramm won the annual Master’s Pro-Am Tournament at Shannon Lake, combining their three best net scores with Matt Kuchar’s Sunday round of 69 at the Augusta National Golf Club. Their 268 total was a good for a seven shot win over Ray Gould, Ed Graham, Dan Pedersen and Ryan Dunkley, who combined with Bubba Watson’s final round 68 at Augusta.
In May, 28 teams competed in the annual SLGC Two-Man Scramble. Larry Kilback and Glen Erickson combined for a six-under-par 65 to win by a shot over Ed and Jason Graham. Ray Gould and John Jacoby were third at 67. The overall Low net winners were Greg Sibbald and Doug Johnston, followed in second place by Eric Solland and Andrew Boyle.
Upcoming this month is Shannon Lake's Ladies Club annual tournament on June 14 with a four-player team modified Stableford format, a change from the past two-ball format.
Tower Ranch Golf Course is up and running with new owners, the Carrington Group of Companies looking to upgrade the exposure for the course and continue with excellent course conditions.
Tower Ranch has an upcoming Father's Day special where locals can play with Dad for a cut-rate green fee and take advantage of drink and dinner specials.
Conditions early this year are great and the greens at Tower are rolling terrific, according to general manager Neil Schmidt.
