The Gavin Lake era of Okanagan Sun football lasted but 10 games.

After a disappointing 3-7 regular season, the B.C. Football Conference Club has relieved Lake of his head coaching duties.

“Despite Gavin's best efforts, this season has not progressed as we had hoped," said Sun president Paul Carson.

“Like any coaching change, this decision is difficult as Gavin is a good man and a good coach who has made every effort to work towards the success of the Okanagan Sun."

Lake, who has CFL, CIS and European coaching experience was hired this spring to replace Jason Casey who took a coaching job at Queen's University in Kingston, Ont.

Lake was the club's third head coach in three seasons as the Sun fired Peter McCall following the 2010 BCFC campaign.

Under Lake, the Sun went an unprecedented 1-4 at home and 0-6 overall against the league's top two teams, the Vancouver Island Raiders and Langley Rams.

Paul Carson, a former member of the coaching staff, will take over the head coaching duties on an interim basis.

This Saturday, the Sun will travel to Nanaimo to take on the defending champion Vancouver Island Raiders in the BCFC semi-final.
