Okanagan Rockets host BCMML playoff starting tonight
The Okanagan Rockets kick off the B.C. Major Midget League playoffs at home this weekend, hosting the Valley West Hawks in a best of three playoff series and looking for its first playoff series victory since 2006-07.
The Rockets and Hawks play Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. at Royal LePage Place in West Kelowna and Sunday morning (10 a.m.) if necessary.
The Rockets took three out of four games from the Hawks this season and outscored them 22-12 in the process, winning the last two games the teams played in Kelowna with wins of 7-0 and 7-3.
The Rockets finished the regular season with a 26-8-3 record, finishing in third place in the BCMML standings.
After some mid-season struggles, manager David Michaud says the team is playing well heading into the playoffs.
"I think we have put that behind us and have been able to re-focus down the stretch," he said. "The players are excited. This is the time of the year that all the hard work pays off. As a group we are ready to roll and take a run at this."
The first place Northwest Giants and the second place Cariboo Cougars both receive a first round bye in the playoffs. The Vancouver NE Chiefs and Greater Vancouver Canadians are meeting in the other first round series.
The Rockets regular season was the team's second best regular season ever with 58 points. Only the 2006-07 team fared better with a record of 27-8-5, a single point higher than this year's group.
Admission to the Rockets and Chiefs games at RLP is free.
