The Kelowna bantam Blackhawks finished its hockey season on a high note, winning the gold medal in the North Delta spring hockey tournament, going undefeated through four games of round robin play and outscoring their opponents 30-6.

After an undefeated round robin, the Blackhawks came up against the Surrey Flyers in the final, the first place team from the other pool who also went undefeated.

It would prove to be an exciting final with two evenly matched teams with strong goalies at both ends. The teamsĀ  exchanged goals through three periods with both teams holding onto the lead at various times.

The Blackhawks opened the scoring with six minutes remaining in the first period but the Flyers answered back less than two minutes later. The Flyers would get the go ahead goal early in the second but the Hawks wouldn't let the lead stand for long and tied it up just under three minutes later. Before the end of the second the Flyers regained the lead making it 3-2.

Battling through over half of the third period before scoring, the Blackhawks finally got the tying goal at the 7:25 mark. But as they'd done earlier the Flyers once again took back the lead and scored with four minutes left in the third period.

But the Hawks would come back yet again scoring less than a minute later and sending the game into overtime.

It would take the Hawks less than a minute of overtime to claim the championship, winning 5-4 and completing a strong season that saw them win three tournaments, place second twice and third once.
