Anholt named Warriors' new captain
Matt Anholt will proudly display the 'C' next season for his West Kelowna Warriors.
The BCHL club this week named the Prince Albert, Sask. native as their captain for the 2013-14 campaign.
While playing predominantly a checking role for the Warriors last season, Anholt had nine goals and 31 points in 51 games.
Anholt takes over the reins from West Kelowna native Max French who graduated from the program this spring.
“It’s a real honour to be named the captain of the Warriors,” says Anholt. “Especially following in the footsteps of Max French is something special. I feel like we’re going to have a real strong team again next year, with a great group of returning players. I would like to thank Rylan and the entire Warriors organization for giving me this opportunity.”
Warriors head coach and GM Rylan Ferster said his leadership abilities on and off the ice make Anholt a logical choice as captain.
"Matt will be a great person to lead the team,” says Ferster. “He demonstrated a lot of leader-type qualities this past year. Also, being around the very good leadership group we had this past season will be helpful. Matt is a team first guy that shows up every night."
Ferster said Anholt was a good leader while playing for the Prince Albert Mintos in midget, and saw leadership qualities from his very first interview with Matt.
Anholt will be joined by three former Mintos in the upcoming year on the Warriors roster: Kylar Hope, Adam Osczevski, and Tanner Bugrardt.
Anholt and his teammates will arrive for the start of main camp on Friday, Aug. 23
Assistant captains will be named after camp.
