Kelowna players chosen for Burnaby Selects
Seven players from Kelowna have been named to Burnaby Mountain Selects field lacrosse program for the 2013 summer season.
Head coach Brent Hoskins, who is also head coach of the SFU men's team, this month announced the rosters for Burnaby Mountain Selects (BMS) elite touring teams.
The local players named are:
Matt Alcorn (KLO Middle 2017) boys' freshmen elite, midfield; Nick Alcorn (Kelowna Secondary 2015) boys' varsity elite, attack; Matthew Blanchard (KLO Middle 2016) boys' sophomore elite, defense; Keaton Brownlee (Okanagan Mission Secondary 2017)boys' freshmen elite, attack; Joshua DuBrett (KLO Middle 2017) boys' freshmen elite, midfield; Matthew Katinic (Okanagan Mission Secondary 2016) boys' sophomore elite, defense; and Quinn Stanhope (Dr. Knox Middle 2016) boys' sophomore elite, midfield.
Entering their 13th season and about to embark on the program's 54th international trip, the Burnaby Mountain Selects are widely recognized as one of Canada's top field lacrosse development programs, combining excellence on the field, with the importance of academic achievement.
Over the course of the summer season, the Selects practice on-field twice a week, with an additional three hours of weekly Study Hall for high school aged student-athletes until the end of the school year.
The boys' freshman and sophomore elite teams will travel to the iconic college town of South Bend, Indiana, home to the University of Notre Dame, July 4 to 8, to compete at the Irish Experience team camp. The Selects will have the opportunity to compete in front of the Notre Dame coaching staff and other NCAA College coaches in attendance during three days of championship competition.
