Kelowna's Van Allen third in IRA race

Jake Van Allen was the top Kelowna finisher in the first cross country race of the season on the Interior Running Association Series.

Van Allen took third place overall—and first in the men's 20 to 29 group—at the Campbell Mountain 8.2 K run in Penticton with a time of 35 minutes 33 seconds.

Cael Warner of Penticton won the race in 34:17, while Scott Tremblay was second in 35:14.

Other Kelowna runners in the top 10 were John Machuga (M 30-34) who was fifth in 37:04, and Dirk-Tiger Handke who placed 10th overall in 40:07.

The top female was Jen Annett of Penticton (formerly of Kelowna) who was 13th overall in 42:55.

Other age group winners from Kelowna were: Tiffany Fowler (F 40-44); Roly Muller (M 60-64); Teddy Boyko (M 65-69); and Jennifer Spencer (F 30-34).

The next IRA event is the Summerland X-Country 7.4 K this Sunday, Oct. 6.
