Okanagan Rockets sweep pair from Blazers

A sweep of the Thompson Blazers has the Okanagan Rockets at the top of the B.C. Major Midget League standings three weeks into the season.

The Rockets took both ends of the home-and-home set to push their 2013-14 record to 5-1-0.

On Saturday in Kamloops, Tanner Wishnowski had a goal and two assists and Mahlon Head scored twice in a 6-3 Rockets win.

Linden Hora, Cory Santoro and Jake Kryski also scored for Okanagan, while Brendan Barry stopped 17 shots in the win.

On Sunday night at CNC, the Rockets completed the sweep in emphatic fashion with an 11-2 thumping of the Blazers.

After falling behind 1-0 early, the Rockets retaliated with three goals just 35 seconds apart in the first period.

Liam Finlay, who played a day earlier with the BCHL's Penticton Vees, led the Okanagan attack with two goals and four points.

Hora and Head each added a pair while Wishnowski added a goal and two assists.

Barry earned his second win of the weekend making 17 stops.

The Rockets have Thanksgiving weekend off, before returning to action Oct. 19 and 20 when they host the Kootenay Ice for two games at the Capital News Centre.
