The Kelowna Skating Club had a busy and successful weekend, as 31 local skaters participated at the 2013 Okanagan Interclub competition in Lake Country Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.

This translated into a total of 28 medals for the Kelowna team.

Leading the way was Kaiya MacLeod with three medal wins in as many events.  The 11-year-old First Lutheran student captured the gold medal in Pre-Juvenile Women under 14 with a personal-best score of 28.12 points, and went on to win gold and bronze medals in Elements 3 and Bronze Creative events.

Also winning three medals was Kelowna’s Mikayla Consiglio, with a trio of silver medals earned from Pre-Juvenile Women under 11, Elements 3, and Preliminary Creative events.

Nine-year-old Daria Carr won gold in a very competitive group of Pre-Juvenile Women under 11, by way of a personal-best 32.25 points.  She also won the silver in her group of the Preliminary Creative event.

Olivia Gran stuck gold of her own in the Juvenile Women under 11 and Elements 4 events, while club mate Malayna Lesko did likewise in Elements 1 and Preliminary Creative events.

Meanwhile, several other Kelowna skaters won medals in multiple events, including Vienna Harwood (gold and silver), Alexis Garost (gold and silver), Maya Rose (gold and bronze), Carter Hiob (gold and bronze), Mackenzie Nelmes (2 bronze), and Carson Consiglio (silver and bronze).

Next for the Kelowna Skating Club will be the Skate Canada Challenge event, held at Regina from Dec. 5 to 8.  This event represents the National Championships for a pair of local skaters at the Pre-Novice level, while 5 other KSC skaters will be competing for qualifying spots to the Canadian Championships at the Novice and Junior levels.
