With contributions on the mound, at the plate and in the field, Ethan Jarvis is proving to be a valuable and versatile asset for the Trinity International University Trojans.

A graduate of Kelowna minor baseball, Jarvis, 19, is in his freshman season at the Deerfield, Illinois-based school.

Jarvis and the Trojans recently completed a rigorous trip south to Historic Dodgertown, the past home of the Los Angeles Dodgers, in Vero Beach, Florida.

Playing in all 12 games over 10 days, Jarvis played at first base, in left field and as a designated hitter. Jarvis went 8-for-21 with five RBIs, including a double and a triple and five runs scored, as the Trojans posted a 6-6 record.

When not playing in the field, Jarvis can be found on the hill where he posted a 2.94 ERA, with nine strikeouts and four walks over 10.2 innings pitched during the trip.

Trojans head coach Paul Groetelushen likes what he sees in Jarvis.

“We expect big things from Ethan at the plate and on the hill,” said Groetelushen. “He has prepared himself, continues to be one of the hardest working players on our team, and is primed for the next challenge.

“We have a long tradition of Canadians doing well at TIU and we look for Ethan to follow in that vein.”

In their first games since returning from Florida, Jarvis went 2-for-4 with three RBIs in a 4-3 win over the MBU Sabercats.

Jarvis played his minor baseball in Kelowna from 2003 to 2014.

In 2015 and 2016, he attended the Okotoks Dawgs Baseball Academy in Southern Alberta.

At TIU, Jarvis is studying in the biology pre-med program.
