Kelowna’s Edith Gay Park is getting a boost from the Toronto Blue Jays.
The park was chosen as one of 14 Field of Dreams recipients, the Jays Care Foundation’s $1.5 million infrastructure investment.
Edith Gay has received a grant of $72,500 from the Jays Care Foundation.
The funds are to help build, refurbish, or enhance diamonds in communities across Canada.
Executive director Robert Witchel said, “Intentionally implemented sport and play-based programs are perhaps the least expensive avenue available to address some of the most pressing issues facing Canadian youth today including mental and physical health. These investments will give young people of all backgrounds and all abilities a place to build friendships and find a sense of belonging.”
Projects span from Atlantic Canada to British Columbia, however, Fruitvale’s McInnis Park is the only other recipient in B.C.
Jays Care has invested over $18.5 million in 217 Field of Dreams projects since it began.
