Rockets Complete Sweet with 4-2 Win in PG

Rockets advance to second round a week from Friday

The Kelowna Rockets advanced to the second round of the Western Hockey League playoffs on Wednesday night with a 4-2 win in Prince George, sweeping the Cougars in four straight games in their WHL Western Conference quarterfinal series.

Shane McColgan scored twice while defencemen Zak Stebner and Damon Severson also scored for the Rockets. Mitchell Callahan had two helpers while Adam Brown made 33 saves to earn the victory in net.

“It feels great getting it done in four straight,” said rookie defenceman Damon Severson on the AM 1150 post game show. “We didn’t play as well as we could have so we have to step it up in the next series but we got the job done.”

After opening with two wins on home ice on the weekend, the Rockets beat the Cougars in two straight at the CN Centre in Prince George: 7-6 Tuesday night and 4-2 Wednesday.

“We won four straight but they gave us everything we could handle,” said Rockets assistant coach Dan Lambert. “We got good goaltending and we scored some goals at key times.”

The Rockets will now be idle until Friday April 8 when the second round of the playoffs begin. The Rockets opponent is yet to be determined.
