Rockets' Lambert to coach again at U-17s

Kelowna Rockets' assistant coach Dan Lambert will be taking his second tour of duty with Hockey Canada later this year.

Lambert, 44, is one of three coaches who have been named to head positions for Canada at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Last year, Lambert coached Team West at the U-17 Challenge in Nova Scotia.

Unlike past tournaments where Canada had five regional teams, the Canadians will enter three national teams (Black, Red and White), one of which Lambert will guide as head coach.

As part of the new structure, the first national under-17 development camp will be held July 27 to Aug. 5 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, with 108 players attending.

From the camp, 66 players will be selected to represent Canada at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, Oct. 31 to Nov. 8 in a yet-to-be-determined location.

Lambert will be entering his sixth season as an assistant with the WHL's Rockets.

The St. Boniface, Man. native played 19 seasons of professional hockey, including 29 games with the NHL's Quebec Nordiques.
