Rockets Snap Losing Streak with 6-3 win over Vancouver

The Kelowna Rockets scored early and often and snapped a six game winless streak with a 6-3 win over the Vancouver Giants on Thursday night in Western Hockey League action at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

Six different Rockets scored while defenceman Damon Severson had five assists on the night to lead the Rockets to the victory in front of 6,071 fans at Prospera Place.

The win improved the Rockets record to 4-6-1-0.

The Rockets came out of the gates flying, scoring three goals in the game's first 10 minutes. Myles Bell opened the scoring and Zach Franko made it 2-0 before rookie Austin Ferguson tapped in his first WHL goal on a goal mouth scramble that made the score 3-0 at the midway point of the first period.

Vancouver answered back with two quick goal of its own before the period was over as Matt Bellerive and Brendan Gallagher made the score 3-2 after the first period.

The second period began much the same as the first with Kelowna extending its lead to 5-2 with two goals in the first three minutes. Colton Sissons and Spencer Main had the goals to restore Kelowna's lead to 5-2. Shane McColgan added a power play marker early in the third period to make the score 6-2 while Bellerive added his second late in the game for the Giants.

The Rockets are back on home ice on Saturday with a rematch against the Victoria Royals. The Royals took both games from Kelowna in Victoria last weekend. game time is 7:05 from Prospera Place on Saturday night.

The Rockets also play Sunday in Vancouver.
