Spokane dumps Rockets 6-4 in Kelowna

The Spokane Chiefs defeated the hometown Kelowna Rockets 6-4 Wednesday in Western Hockey League action.

Ryan Olsen scored twice in a losing cause and Myles Bell had three assists to move into a tie for the WHL scoring lead but neither player could lift the Rockets past the Chiefs, who improved to 5-1-0-0 on the season.

The loss drops Kelowna to 3-4-1-0 as they get set to hit the road for a weekend double-header in Victoria.

The Chiefs jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Wednesday night at Prospera Place, putting the Rockets behind the eight ball early. Mitch Holmberg led the visitors attack with a pair of markers.

Down 3-0 midway through the second, Olsen and Colton Sissons scored to make the score 3-2 after two periods. In the third, Dylen McKinlay tied the game at 3-3 before the Chiefs pulled away with three more goals.

Jordon Cooke stopped 28 shots in the Kelowna net as the Rockets outshot Spokane 43-33 in front of 4,781 fans at Prospera Place.

The Rockets leave Thursday for Victoria and will play the Royals Friday and Saturday night before returning to Kelowna Thursday Oct. 18 against Prince George.
