The Kelowna Rockets scored three times in a span of four minutes early in the first period, then rolled past the Red Deer Rebels 6-2 in WHL action Wednesday night at Prospera Place.

Damon Severson paced the Rockets attack with a goal and two assists, while Riley Stadel, Madison Bowey, Rourke Chartier, Carter Rigby and Zach Franko added singles as Kelowna won its fifth consecutive game.

The Rockets scored the game's first four goals, chasing Rebels' netminder Patrik Bartosak   at the 13:35 mark of the opening period.

"It was great the way the guys came out, it was enjoyable to watch," said head coach Ryan Huska. "We took advantage early on and made the most of our chances."

With the win, the Rockets (12-2-0-2) opened up a six-point lead over Victoria for top spot in the B.C. Division.

Jordon Cooke stopped 16 shots for his 10th win of the season as the Rockets outshot the Rebels 44-18.

The Rockets continue their four-game home stand Friday against the Prince George Cougars, followed by a visit from the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, the Rockets moved back into the CHL's top 10 rankings this week in the seventh position.
