WHL PLAYOFFS: Americans Need Overtime to Oust Rockets

The Tri-City Americans came from behind to beat a tenacious Kelowna Rockets club 4-3 in overtime on Friday night, winning their best of seven Western Conference semi final series four games to one.

Kruise Reddick scored the overtime marker 5:37 into overtime in Kennewick, Washington, ending the series and the Rockets season.

The goal completed a third period comeback that saw the Americans erase two two goal deficits.

The Rockets took a 2-0 lead into the third period as Brandon McMillan had staked the club to the lead with goals in the first and second period.

Sergei Drozd got the Americans on the board five minutes into the third but Lucas Bloodoff restored the Rockets two goal lead with his fifth of the playoffs at 12:03 of the third, making it 3-1.

Just 41 seconds later Drozd made it 3-2 and with the goalie on the bench for the extra attacker Johnny Lazo tied the game at 3-3 with 1:24 to play in the game.

That set the stage for the overtime heroics allowing the Americans to play on in the WHL playoffs. Tri-City will play the winner of the Vancouver-Portland series.
