A solid all-around performance against Kamloops has earned Okanagan Sun linebacker Keagan Hughes B.C. Football Conference defensive player of the week honours.
A product of West Kelowna’s Mt. Boucherie Bears, Hughes had six tackles, 1/2 sack, an assisted tackle and a blocked punt in Sunday’s 39-17 victory over the Broncos at the Apple Bowl.
The 6-foot-0, 190-pound Hughes is in his second season with the Sun.
It’s was the second straight defensive award for the Sun as Jonas Gering won the honour last week.
VI Raiders Arthur Fabbro was the offensive player of the week, while Langley kicker Brian Hope earned special teams recognition.
Hughes and the Sun (8-0) return to action this weekend when they travel to Victoria Saturday to take on the Westshore Rebels.
Okanagan will close out the regular season Oct. 10 in Kamloops.
The Sun has clinched home field advantage for the playoffs and will host the BCFC semifinal on Sunday, Oct. 18.
