Telemark winds down season, hosts Demo Day

Four members of the Telemark biathlon club are in the process of preparing for the Biathlon Canada national championships in Canmore, Alta.

Natalie Benoit, Danica Ariano, Colton Hay and Jasper MacKenzie will compete in the week-long event, March 6 to 12. Telemark athletes competed in the final provincial event of the season, Feb. 11 and 12 in Burns Lake.

Natalie Benoit and Makenna Banser each finished first in their respective senior and junior girls categories.

Kira Friesen (junior girls) took second both days in the individual and pursuit competitions.

Colton Hay (senior boys) placed second in each of the competitions.

Danica Ariano (senior girls) placed fifth and fourth, while Rory Hay (junior boys) placed fifth both days.

Demo day Sunday…

Telemark Biathlon invites the public to give biathlon a try by hosting the Demo Day and Public Fun Race this Sunday, March 5.

No experience is required, as coaches and biathletes will be on hand to provide instruction for this very exciting Olympic sport.

Between 10 and noon, each participant will be coached through two shooting and skiing bouts, followed by the option of a short or longer race.

The fun starts around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, with trail passes and ski rentals available at the Telemark lodge.

Telemark is located at 4425 Glenrosa Road in West Kelowna.
