Boxing Card this weekend in Peachland
The Peachland Recreation Centre will be a busy place this weekend as boxers from the around the Central Okanagan as well as the rest of the province converge on Peachland for a provincial boxing card.
The Peachland Boxing Club is will be hosting a B.C. Provincial Boxing card on Saturday night at the Peachland Rec. Center with boxers from Kelowna, Kamloops, Salmon Arm, Vernon, Williams Lake, Cranbrook and Revelstoke joining the local pugilists from Peachland.
Among the confirmed bouts will be first time Peachland boxer Reese Waterfield taking on Kelowna boxer Dawson Hill. Eric Hahn-Hill will be in the ring against Thistletown's Austin Riggs from Kelowna.
It will be a good experience for both Waterfield and Hahn-Hill as the pair have been invited to compete in the B.C. provincial tournament in Revelstoke on Nov. 26 and 27.
Also on the card this weekend is Peachland heavyweight senior boxer Patrick Livingston who will be in the ring in an an exhibition.
Ten bouts have been confirmed by Peachland Coach John Wardley who hopes to add another two bouts to the venue.
The Peachland Lions club will be on hand to serve burgers, hot dogs and soft drinks at the event.
Wardley says the local card could be in addition to a bronze gloves competition the club has bid for.
"Peachland did bid for the 2011 BC provincial Bronze Gloves that has been held in Peachland before," said Wardley. "That tournament attracted over 500 visitors and boxers from clubs from all over B.C. and Alberta. For this competition we have had a pool of 84 boxers e-mailed to us from clubs wanting to participate in our club card. Peachland and the Peachland Recreational center are a venue of choice for amateur boxing in this province."
Tickets for the event this weekend are $10 and will be available at the door.
