Warriors earn point from Bulldogs

The West Kelowna let two points get away, then were a little fortunate to hang on to just one on Sunday against the Alberni Bulldogs.

The Warriors surrendered a seemingly commanding 3-0 lead, before holding on for a 3-3 tie against the Bulldogs in BCHL action at LePage Place.

It appeared Alberni may have actually won the game in the second overtime when a replayed showed that Matthew Hansen beat Tyler Briggs on a penalty shot. But referee Jim Maniago ruled the puck did not enter the net and the game went on to end in a draw.

West Kelowna jumped on the Bulldogs who were playing their third game in as many days, with 26 shots and three goals in the first 20 minutes.

Jetlan Houcher, Seb Lloyd and newcomer Ben Tegtmeyer scored for the Warriors, before the Bulldogs battled back with three markers over the final two periods. Alberni then almost won the game in regulation when Ryan Lough hit the post with about six minutes left.

Warriors' head coach Rylan Ferster wasn't happy with his team's effort.

"I'm disappointed," said Ferster, "…we're just going to play good enough now that it is 3-0 as opposed to having the killer instinct you have to have at home."

The Warriors (12-8-2-6) share second sport in the Interior Division with the Merritt Centennials, 11 points back of first place Penticton.

West Kelowna returns to action Friday night when the Trail SmokeEaters visit LePage.
