New goaltender boosts West Kelowna Warriors

It didn’t take long for Trevor Martin to impact the fortunes of the West Kelowna Warriors.

The 20-year-old goaltender turned in a stellar 39-save effort Wednesday night in Salmon Arm to boost the Warriors past theSilverbacks 4-2.

It was the Warriors’ third straight win and came on the heels of a seven-game winless streak.

The Warriors (8-9-1-0) picked up Martin last week after he was released by the Western Hockey League’s Red Deer Rebels.

Since joining the defending B.C. Hockey League champs, Martin, a native of Androssan, Alta., is 2-1-0 with a 2.35 goals against average and a .936 save percentage.

Martin comes to West Kelowna with 61 games of WHL experience with the Rebels and Saskatoon Blades.

Backup Shane Farkas also turned in a solid effort in his last start, stopping 35 shots in a 2-1 overtime win at Alberni Valley onSunday afternoon.

In Wednesday’s victory in Salmon Arm, Quin Foreman scored twice and added an assist, while Matthew Campese had and two assists.

Foreman, 20, a naitve of Norwood, Mass., continues to lead the Warriors’ in scoring this season with 11 goals and 25 points in18 games.

The Warriors will play host to the Interior Division rival Trail Smoke Eaters tonight, 7 p.m., at Royal LePage Place. The clubs have split two meetings so far this season.

On Saturday night, the Warriors will host the Prince George Spruce Kings.
