The historic building on Ellis Street next to BNA will soon be empty as the Lakehouse showroom will be moving back to its flagship store on Bernard Avenue.
Owners Ben and Sue Boschman say they are sad to leave the location but acknowledge it’s time.
“Between the fires in 2023 and the short-term rental policy we are moving our showroom,” said Sue Boschman. “In some ways, it is an advantage to have all our offerings under one roof but our clients will miss the ambience of the brick and hardwood showroom on Ellis for sure.”
The multi-level showroom at the Ellis location opened in 2018 and offered brands like Cattelan Italia.
Boschman said the store curated the collections so people wouldn’t have to go to Vancouver to find the brands they wanted for their homes.
“It really took off and we had amazing feedback from customers who wanted to work with a designer from the get-go,” said Boschman.
Following the 2023 fires, the couple saw the number of customers starting to drop off and after the province introduced new short-term rental restrictions in May 2024, Boschman said there were fewer people in the market due to what they believe was a decline in tourism and real estate.
Now, as the Boschmans begin to move to relocate to the Bernard location the Ellis store will be liquidating most of the designer furniture with 20-70 per cent discounts and expect to be completely moved out by Nov. 30.
