Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 7 a.m. Ethel Street between Bernard and Harvey avenues will be closed.
Intersections at Lawrence, Leon, and Bernard avenues will remain open but may be periodically reduced to single-lane alternating traffic. Ethel Street vehicle access will only be accommodated for residences with driveways on the street.
Construction is anticipated for completion in October. Pedestrians and cyclists should use alternate routes and carefully obey all signs and safety personnel in the construction zone.
Transit route No. 9 will be detoured via Bernard Avenue between Richter and Ethel streets and some stops closed and relocated. Visit bctransit.com/regions/kel or call the hotline at 250-860-8121 for schedules and plan travel accordingly.
Construction hours are scheduled Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Work may occur outside of regular construction hours to minimize traffic delays and limit construction time.
Ethel Street is a key north/south active transportation route. Improvements will include a separated “cycle track” on both sides of the road, new sidewalks, landscaping and utilities improvements. As cycling and other wheeled modes of transportation continue to increase, separating uses for the recreational cyclists, commuter cyclists and motorists helps ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience.
The City of Kelowna appreciates the patience of residents, businesses and motorists while construction is taking place.
