Thirteen actors from across the Pacific Northwest are in Penticton to "dive into the craft of storytelling."

Tempest Theatre hosts a one-night production on Saturday, June 15, with performers set to give their take on six scenes after taking part in an intense 10-day rehearsal period.

The presentation — Tempest Tapas — has been the theatre's signature event since 2018.

This year, audience members will vote on which of the six modern classics they liked the best. The winning play will get its own future production at Tempest Theatre.

"The actors are assigned scenes in advance and ready to deep into the work upon arrival," said Kate Twa, artistic director and lead instructor at the theatre. "At the end of the work, the scenes are presented as a performance for a live audience."

Actors set to take to the Penticton stage are said to all be experienced, with many working on film and television shows.

Twa, along with UBCO's Denise Kenney, are the scenes' directors.

Theatre describes this weekend's scenes are from the following plays:

• Boom by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb

• Everyone's Fine with Virginia Woolf by Kate Scelsa

• Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard

• The Book of Will by Lauren Gunderson

• The Lifespan of a Fact by Jeremy Karaken

• The Taming by Lauren Gunderson

Doors open at 7 p.m., with performers set to take the stage at 7:30 p.m.
