Come see live music for free this weekend.

The Chamber Music Kelowna Society is providing an opportunity to see the Formosa Quartet in an open rehearsal as they prepare for their concert, Feb. 11., from 1 to 1:50 p.m.

The public can enjoy this rare opportunity to observe how a piece of music is shaped and polished before a concert. The open rehearsal will be held at the Mary Irwin Theatre at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, doors will open at 12:30 p.m.

Following the open rehearsal, the evening concert will commence at 7:30 p.m. The program, with pianist Reiko Uchida, will feature Hungarian Folk Songs by Dana Williams, Lei Liang’s Song Recollections and Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quintet in F minor, Op.34. A few tickets for the concert may still be available by connecting with the Rotary Centre for the Arts at 250-717-5304.

About the Formosa Quartet and Reiko Uchida

Formed in 2002 and winners of the First Prize and the Amadeus Prize at the London International String Quartet Competition in 2006, the Formosa Quartet is deeply committed to championing Taiwanese music and promoting the arts in the land of its heritage, and their active commissioning has contributed significantly to the 21st century’s string quartet literature. In 2016, they premiered Lei Liang’s Song Recollections, based on music indigenous to aboriginal tribes of Taiwan.

Reiko Uchida is a pianist of rare poetic quality. Her playing has been described as “refined and exquisite” by the New York Times.
