Bring on the teams.
A total of 115 teams will take part in the the annual Funtastic A&W Slo-Pitch Tournament and Music Festival which kicks off this July long weekend. The first games are slated for Friday, June 28, at 5:15 p.m., and the final contests will be played on Monday – Canada's 157th birthday – July 1.
All games and bands can be found at the Vernon Army Camp.
"Things are extremely busy here," said Funtastic's Jamie Austin on Tuesday, June 25. "We're got the (beverage) gardens looking great and we're working on getting the fields prepped for the games."
Funtastic is making one lineup change for the music festival. The Trews – one of Canada’s most successful rock bands of the past decade – will be the headliners Friday night. They'll take the place of originally scheduled headliners, Toque.
The Trews have racked up numerous Juno nominations and earned 19 top-10 radio singles.
Based in Antigonish, NS, The Trews have more than 155,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. They've played thousands of shows worldwide, on their own as well as supporting the Rolling Stones, KISS, Robert Plant, Guns ‘n Roses, Aerosmith, Weezer, Mumford & Sons, Bruce Springsteen, Switchfoot and more.
Also performing on the Friday are Linus, Sparrow Blue and the Young Uns.
The music lineup Saturday sees Courtney Hunt, Riley Taylor and Aaron Goodvin, while Sunday will have Dying Breed, Angie Heinze Band, Barracuda and BC/DC perform.
Tickets to the three-day Funtastic Festival can be purchased at funtasticsports.ca.
Funtastic has also added some extra sports for the 2024 event.
Firehawk Volleyball will host a tournament at Polson Park, on the oval. To the west in the park, the Vernon Lawn Bowling Club will be hosting its sport at the club, and Cornhole will be featured at the army camp.
