The Kelowna Rockets have their first win of the WHL season after the beating the Tri-City Americans 2-1 in a penalty filled affair on Saturday night (Oct. 5) in Washington State.
With no scoring in the first period, Austin Zemlak (1) put the Americans on the board first at 3:36 of the second frame for a 1-0 lead. Kelowna’s Michael Cicek (4) tied it just under seven minutes later on the power play. Kayden Longley and Jakub Stanci assisted on the goal. Caden Price (1) scored in the game winning goal, his first of the season, making it 2-1 at 14:49, with assists to Cicek and Longley.
Kelowna and Tri City were assessed eight penalties each with the Rockets 1/3 on the power play and the Americans 0/3. Tri City out shot Kelowna 32/19. Jake Pilon was in goal for Kelowna.
The Rockets next game is Friday, Oct. 11 when they host the Portland Winterhawks at Prospera Place. It’s also Canadian Cancer Night.
