A Brave Heart is showing this weekend in Kelowna.

Kelowna’s Amnesty International group will show the film A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasques Story this Saturday at the First United Church hall.

The documentary is about a young woman born with a syndrome that makes it very difficult for her to gain weight who, at 17, discovers on YouTube that she has been declared the world’s ugliest woman.

She fights back by setting up her own YouTube channel which grows to over 450,000 subscribers, promoting kindness and self-esteem.

She becomes an internationally acclaimed motivational speaker and travels to Washington, D.C. to lobby on behalf of the Safe Schools Improvement Act with the aim of legislating bullying.
