Davis: More from original Dumb and Dumber crew

Dumb and Dumber To reunites the original principals including Farrally brothers creators and stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniel.

Last weekend, Big Hero 6 and Interstellar shared huge audiences at the movies and will likely do so again this weekend.

Next weekend, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 will dominate the box office.  Therefore, any movie company would be really dumb to release a movie this weekend. But when the movie is Dumb and Dumber To, Universal Pictures decided to go for it.

D&D To

Now 20 years after the original, Dumb and Dumber To reunites the original principals including creators Peter and Bobby Farrelly (There’s Something About Mary) and stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels and will likely not reference the forgettable 2003 prequel that none of them were involved with.

The sequel has Harry and Lloyd setting off on another road trip to search out Harry’s daughter who he has been keeping secret for 20 years and who Lloyd instantly falls in love with after only seeing her picture.

Of course, the thin plot serves as the set piece for some predictably dumb but hopefully hilarious antics.

With both the Farrelly Brothers and Carrey lacking a hit over the last decade, it will be interesting to see if they can recapture the magic. What is also interesting is seeing Daniels returning to his Dumber role after getting used to him as a very intelligent news anchor on HBO’s The Newsroom over the past few years.

Dumb and Dumber To also stars Laurie Holden (The Walking Dead), Rob Riggle (22 Jump Street), Kathleen Turner and watch for a cameo from a big star who is a huge fan of the original but would have only been four years old when it came out.
