Kelowna Actors Studio to hold open call auditions

Auditions are for adult and youth roles, ages 8 and older.

Open call auditions are for roles in Jesus Christ Superstar, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, All Shook Up, Jekyll and Hyde and/or Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Dates and times:

Friday, May 1 from 6:30 to 10:30 pm

Saturday, May 2 from 11 am to 6 pm  Call backs:

A call back schedule will be made at the auditions for Friday, May 8 (evening) and Saturday May 9 (morning, afternoon and evening)    Please Note:

KAS will not be seeing children under the age of 8. There are only two roles in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and two roles in Mary Poppins for children between the ages of 8 and 14.

Be prepared:

If auditioning for a musical you will be required to sing 16 bars of music from a Broadway song that best shows off your voice. Please bring sheet music in the correct key, a pianist will be provided. No singing without accompaniment or with vocal tracks.

If auditioning for Jesus Christ Superstar you will be required to sing 16 bars of a contemporary pop or rock song in addition to 16 bars from a Broadway musical. Please also prepare a one minute monologue of your choice (due to time constraints you may not get to finish your monologue). A short group movement exercise will be required at the call backs.

Ages are for the character’s appearance, not necessarily your actual age. All body types, races and ethnicities are welcome and encouraged to audition.

Auditions for Mary Poppins will be held at a time to be announced in 2016. All roles in Mary Poppins are paid a weekly salary. Preference for roles in Mary Poppins will be given to those who have performed or crewed in Jesus Christ Superstar, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, All Shook Up, Jekyll and Hyde and/or Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Rehearsal and performance schedules:

Please note the rehearsal process starts approximately six to seven weeks prior to a show times, with rehearsals three to five times per week depending on the role you receive. Typically, rehearsals are from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm on weekdays and from noon to 6 pm on weekends.

Shows run for three weeks, with performances Wednesday to Sunday at 8 pm and a Saturday matinee at 1 pm. An additional performance may be added on the final Sunday evening. Cast must be available for this performance as well.

You must be available for all performances.Please check your availability before committing to a role.

Auditions are limited and are first come first served.
