See Fernando Varela in Kelowna before he’s declared a superstar

A star in the making at the Kelowna Community Theatre Sept. 19.

Things just keep getting better for Fernando Varela  In addition to being invited by Andrea Bocelli to sing harmonies on a live album with him, Fernando has been invited to join Baby Face, Chaka Kahn, Ruban Studdard and David Foster on the David Foster and Friends Asian Tour this fall. Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. at the Kelowna Community Theatre may be the last chance we will ever get to see Fernando in a smaller venue.

As the manager of the Kelowna Community Theatre, I cannot emphasize this enough, if you are going to spend any money on live entertainment this year, spend it on this event. Varela is on his way to becoming one of the biggest stars in the world. The hit-maker himself, David Foster, has started shaping Fernando’s career, just as he did with Michael Buble and Josh Groban. Fernando’s talent has been compared with that of Pavarotti, Groban and even Freddy Mercury.

“I’ve worked with every giant in the business, and just when you think you’ve already heard everything, even I was blown away,” said Foster.

“Luciano Pavarotti has been reborn. Fernando has the voice and personality of a superstar,” said Robin Leach.

“This kind of voice is rare and it comes around about once every 100 years as in a Luciano Pavarotti.” exclaimed maestro Earl Stafford.

Pavarotti’s own conductor, Giancarlo Chiaramello said: “I have heard very few voices like yours.”

Fernando’s Classical meets Classic Rock concert is a rare experience blending some of the most powerful classic rock ballads ever written such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Elvis’s American Trilogy and Roy Orbison’s Pretty Woman with such classics as O Sole Mio and Nessun Dorma.

I personally witnessed members of the audience brought to tears by his vocals and I, myself, had moments when Fernando hit notes that literally pulled the breath right out of my body. I had never witnessed anything like that before, and this year, he will not only be performing with his amazing rock quartet, he is also being joined by the Okanagan Symphony. To top it off, the Kelowna Community Theatre now has a brand new $200,000 sound system that will ensure that every amazing note that Fernando delivers is reproduced perfectly.

The last time Fernando Varela performed at the Kelowna Community Theatre he was brand new to our stage and we had over 500 people in the audience, many of whom took the time to telephone, email and stop me in the street for months after the show to let me know how fantastic they thought his performance was.

The chance to see the birth of a superstar comes around once in a lifetime, and this is it!
