The fifth annual Variety Boat for Hope is getting ready to set sail on Saturday June 18 at the Kelowna Yacht Club and we need your help.
This is a fun pirate themed day held specifically for children with disabilities and their families. These special young pirates will get to experience life as it should be—fun and carefree on a boat for the day.
More than 200 children with disabilities and their families will hit the high seas to participate in a pirate treasure hunt on Okanagan Lake. They will then return to land for Treasure Island—a fun area of games, live music, craft activities and a barbeque lunch.
This event also raises money for the continued care of these kids through Variety—The Children’s Charity and the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs.
Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up, kid’s crafts, games and activities like a pirate hockey shoot out, gold toss, treasure hunt, snakes and ladders, bubbles and more. Volunteers are also needed to assist with our barbeque, serving lunch and with cleaning up at the end of the day.
Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and this can be split into different shifts. When you sign in you will receive a special event volunteer T-shirt and lunch will be provided. We encourage you to dress like a pirate, so don’t forget your eye patch, bandana or sword.
