UPDATE: 3:05 p.m.
Emergency crews arrived on the scene of a fully involved structure fire at a residence on Delmonte Court, at about 2 p.m. Sunday.
According to Platoon Captain Corrie Lang ashes from a fireplace that had been cleaned out, and placed outside of the home, may have been what sparked the blaze, however, an inspector would be investigating to confirm further.
“It started outside and kind of went up and got in the attic,” said Lang, adding that crews did a good job extinguishing flames from further damaging the home.
Crews would be on scene ensuring flames did not extend further into the home.
However, the fire did not spread to any neighbouring residences and no one was injured in the incident.
The residents will be placed into the care of Emergency Social Services, as the fire caused significant damage to the home.
“Make sure you get your chimneys cleaned on a regular basis… and when disposing of ashes from fireplaces be sure to use metal bins and place them outside,” cautioned Lang, to those who might be using a fireplace at this time of year.
Three people were able to safely evacuate following a fire at a home in Kelowna’s Mission area, on Sunday afternoon.
Multiple fire trucks responded to 629 Delmonte Court just after 2 p.m.
Smoke could still be seen coming from the residence at about 2:45 p.m.
The side of the structure was heavily impacted by the blaze.
FortisBC and RCMP are also on scene.
It’s unclear what caused the fire.
