Pubs are so much more than just places to drink or grab some grub, they’re the heart and soul of many major cities and suburban communities.

In recent years, we’ve seen the evolution of the pub from greasy spoon to gastro-fare – many have even upped the ante with their entertainment offerings.

97 Street Pub located at the Best Western Plus Kelowna Hotel & Suites has returned to its original stature of being one of Kelowna’s top sport’s bars. And while the customers are thrilled about the establishment’s return to a sports bar, it’s the new menu causing a big buzz.

“There is pub food and then there is 97th Street Pub food,” said Brenda Rayburn, director of sales & marketing for Best Western Plus Kelowna Hotel & Suites of the innovative menu.

“We pride ourselves on a commitment to sustainability, throughout the hotel, and now our pub as well.”

Eating local offers numerous benefits, supports local farmers, assists economy for the local communities – there’s also the freshness factor that simply can’t be beat.

“We didn’t want to sacrifice quality of food because it was a pub,” noted Rayburn.

House-made burgers, pizza’s and flatbreads are made using vegetables grown on the hotel franchise’s own farm – ingredients that are not homegrown, are purchased locally whenever possible.

“Okanagan Fruit is incorporated in a couple of our dinner selections that you will have you coming back,” added Rayburn.

“Nothing beats fresh and we grow our own herbs used in the preparation of our menu items. From our Fish & chips made with our own beer batter from our craft beers, to potatoes from our farm and Oceanwise seafood, we take great pride in combining sustainability with local ingredients for pub favourites.”

In addition to using locally infused flavours, there’s an undeniable fun factor at the 97th Street Pub. While there are surprises coming this fall, the pub currently features 16 TVs, and fun happening each night of the week.

“Rally your co-workers and friends, or pull up a chair on your own and experience great service and delicious food,” said Rayburn.

“Whatever your game, we’ve got it covered. The 97 Street sports pub is back!”
