Power restored to West Kelowna and Peachland

UPDATE: 3:45 p.m.

Power has been restored to the almost 15,000 BC Hydro customers in West Kelowna and Peachland.

It’s unclear what caused the power to go out about 1:30 p.m.

BC Hydro crews arrived on scene to assess the situation around 2:15 p.m.

BC Hydro has been reached for comment.

Thousands of BC Hydro customers in West Kelowna and Peachland are without power, Wednesday afternoon.

Most of West Kelowna, including Glenrosa, Westbank, East Boundary Road, Lakeview Heights and Westside Road past Trader’s Cove to the north of Wilson’s Landing are in the dark.

More than 2,700 BC Hydro customers are without power in Peachland with the outage extending to the Shingle Creek area past Summerland.

It’s estimated 15,000 customers are without power.

The outage occurred about 1:30 p.m. and BC Hydro crews are aware of the situation.

It’s unclear what caused the large outage, but it is under investigation. There is currently no time of power being restored. It is currently 30 C in the Central Okanagan, with a UV index of 8 or higher.
